If you are a follower of Lucas Media you might have noticed that our original YouTube channel has gone quiet. We want to shed some light on what happened and how it's affected us.

Most importantly though where to find our new Youtube content in the future.

What happened?

We lost access to our original Youtube account a few months ago and have never been able to retrieve it or gain access. The problem started when we hadn't logged in for a while the backup phone number we used wasn't in service anymore so when Google asked us at login to confirm who we are we could not. That meant we couldn't receive the verification code needed to log back in. We did however have a backup email but Google were determined to not give us that option as we tried a number of times to go through the login verification process.

If you have been through this before you will know that you are dealing with a binary system that doesn't have any human operatives so if the computer says no there is no way to try and explain your situation. The lack of customer support is very frustrating especially when you are a legitimate customer with multiple accounts and various alternative means of being contacted.

We've spent years uploading to Youtube and have a historical body of work that Lucas Media has produced. Youtube users have still been subscribing to the channel even though they didn't know that we were locked out of the account. Not having editable access means there is no way to let viewers know that we won't be uploading to the channel anymore.

Without access we've had to make the decision to start a brand new Youtube channel to upload new content. This is frustrating because its means we will have to start again from scratch. As you can imagine this is far from ideal. It has also presented the dilemma of what to upload do we dip back into the back catalogue and upload every video that we have on the old channel?
That would of course be a long winded process especially because that content is already on Youtube. We have decided to upload a selection of the older videos however we will concentrate on the newer content that is going to be produced in the future.

Something interesting to note is that during the process we were able to regain access to the Lucas Media Google Business Page. This was a very big surprise. We thought we would have to go through a new setup process. This would have been very tricky because we could not change any of the contact details because our address and contact details haven't changed. We were able to 'claim' ownership of that page and go through some security authorisations. It did seem like when we were going through that there was a human on the end of the communications. So goes to show Google can put resources into helping customers when they want to do so.

Make sure you have an active phone number to retrieve your account and set up multiple backup emails. This scenario is not the end of the world and nothing has fundamentally been lost or stolen.
